Settlement
Settlement is the process by which value reaches final state across the selected rails and partners.
CashXChain abstracts the complexity of settlement while still exposing enough information for businesses to operate confidently.
Settlement is route-dependent
A payment may settle through different combinations of infrastructure:
- Local bank transfer rails.
- International wire rails.
- Stablecoin settlement rails.
- Partner internal ledger transfers.
- Payout providers.
- On/off-ramp providers.
The selected route depends on the corridor, currency, amount, account status, beneficiary details, risk profile, and partner availability.
Settlement states
| State | Description |
|---|---|
not_started | The payment instruction exists but settlement has not started. |
pending_partner | A partner has accepted the instruction or is processing it. |
pending_network | A network, chain, or bank rail confirmation is pending. |
pending_payout | Funds are ready for local payout. |
final | Settlement is final according to the selected route. |
reversed | A reversal or return occurred after processing. |
failed | Settlement failed before completion. |
Speed expectations
Some routes can confirm in seconds. Others depend on local banking cut-off times, beneficiary bank processing, compliance review, or partner-specific operating windows.
CashXChain exposes expected settlement windows in quotes and payment details. These are estimates unless explicitly marked as guaranteed.
Finality
Finality means different things across rails. Blockchain settlement, internal partner settlement, SEPA settlement, ACH, wire, and local payout schemes each have different confirmation and return characteristics.
CashXChain normalizes these differences but does not hide operational risks. If a route can be returned, recalled, or delayed, the payment timeline and risk notice will indicate that.
Settlement references
A completed payment can include several references:
- CashXChain payment ID.
- Customer reference.
- Quote ID.
- Partner reference.
- Bank rail reference.
- Blockchain transaction hash where relevant.
- Statement line ID.
Reconciliation
Use settlement references and statements to match CashXChain payments to invoices, ERP entries, customer orders, or partner reports.
